Just Say No, Again

January 13th, 2008

Speaking of upgrades, several colleagues who recently purchased a Mac (a fast growing group) asked me recently about whether to buy the soon-to-be-released Office 2008.

I don’t know about anyone else but I won’t be buying this package.

The more I think about the way I work and the applications I actually use, I realize that I really don’t need the most current version of big, expensive, complex programs with far more features than necessary.

For a new year’s resolution, maybe I’ll try to make it in the digital world without the newest software containing all kinds of shiny buttons. And little else that’s actually new.

I’m planning to buy a Mac this year, and I’ll be bypassing Microsoft Word for Scrivener, as I’ve heard nothing but good things about it from fellow Mac users. And if you need the other Office apps, there’s always Open Office.
