It’s no great philosophical observation but sometimes life hits you in the head and insists that you pay attention to something other than what you had planned. I won’t go into detail but that’s the basic explanation for the month-long silence in this space and my almost silence in other channels over the same period.
So, as most of the world celebrates Julius Caesar’s largely artificial construct of resetting the calendar on this date (September still seems like a more relevant point), I’m going forward very confident that 2013 will be much better than the last part of 2012.
Happy new year, everyone and I hope the same holds true for you.
Sorta off topic for this space (although maybe it shouldn’t be), a couple of weeks ago we spent a little more than a week on the Amalfi Coast of Italy, an amazingly beautiful part of the world.
As has been the case with most of the foreign travel in my adult life, I was part of the pack of family and friends tagging along with a choir in which the musical wife was singing, as they performed in various venues around the area. Â Traveling with an organized tour has it’s advantages and downsides (I didn’t get nearly as much independent time as in previous trips) but it was still a lot of fun.
For those who like to follow along at home, many of the annotated pictures are in my flickr photostream. More will be added as I have time to process them. For now, here’s one of my favorites, an incredible view from the small arts colony of Ravello looking across the Mediterranean towards Salerno. We stayed in Maiori, that little town on the coast to the left.
My new SLR also records video, something not even possible with the eight year old model it replaced, so I experimented a little. One of the better results is on my Vimeo page.
Thanks for indulging my vacation slides. :-)
For some reason my WordPress set up for this rant fest is holding every comment that’s posted in the moderation queue. I think it has something to do with my ill-fated upgrade to version 1.5 of their system and I’m not sure how to fix it yet. So, if your comment doesn’t appear right away, please don’t think I’m censoring anyone. It will get posted the next time I check my mail. The only comments that get killed around here come from the usual spamming idiots.
