Online Assessment Tools

Internet-based projects often represent a major change in the way that student work and learn. So there also has to be a change in the way that students are evaluated on their work. Here are some web sites where you can read about new ways of assessing student projects.

RubiStar

Part of the www4teachers collection sponsored by the High Plains Regional Technology in Education Consortium, this free tool allows teachers to create high quality rubrics. You can start from scratch or use any of the templates which are based on the type of project and the topic. Registered users (registration is also free) can store their rubrics online for up to one year and go back and edit them.

Rubrics for Web Lessons

This is an introduction to designing rubrics for WebQuests and other online projects, hosted by the people who created the WebQuest concept. This page also has links to a few good articles on using authentic assessment and to other resources for designing and using rubrics.

Rubrics for Evaluation Student Multimedia Projects

Although the title says multimedia projects, the rubrics which can be downloaded from these pages adapt very nicely to many Internet-based projects.
