creating a new site in golive
While it's perfectly acceptable to build multiple pages and link them together in GoLive, you will be missing out on much of the power of the software to help you manage your web site. If you already have a site created in some other program, take a look at the instructions for importing the files into a GoLive site.
If, on the other hand, you want to start a site from scratch, here are the steps to make that happen.
1. Start GoLive and select New Site... from the File menu.

2. Make sure the first window of the Site Wizard has Single User selected. Click Next.
3. The next page should have Blank Site selected. Click Next.

4. In the next window give your site a name. This name will be used on your local hard drive to name the various pieces of your site. It's best not to use any spaces in the name. Make sure the box next to Create Project Folder is checked and click Next.

5. In the next window, click the Browse button and find a folder in which to store your project. The Documents/My Documents folder would be a good place for now. You can move the folder almost anywhere later. When the path to your folder is showing click Finish.

6. After a few seconds you'll see the site window showing a page called index.html. That is your home page and your site has been created. For now, Quit/Exit from GoLive.
7. Open the Documents/My Documents folder and find your project folder (mine is called Happy_Valley). Open that folder.

8. Inside you will see three folders and one file. The folders are always named the same: web-content, web-settings and web_data. The main file is called Happy_Valley.site (or whatever you called your site). If you are using Windows, you may not see the extender depending on the way you have your computer configured.
In GoLive version 6, the folders were called Happy_Valley (corresponding to the content folder), Happy_Valley.data and Happy_Valley.settings. The .site file is the same.
The purpose of the three folders will be explained elsewhere but the file Happy_Valley.site is very important. It will contain information about every file in your site. From now on you will double-click that file when you want to do ANYTHING with your site - add pages, edit pages, move pages around - ANYTHING! As you continue to work with GoLive you will come to appreciate that suggestion.
