Thurl Ravenscroft died this past weekend at the age of 91. You could be forgiven if you never heard of him. You would be a rare person indeed if you’ve never heard his voice.

For more than 50 years Ravenscroft was the voice behind Tony the Tiger but he could also be heard in dozens of Disney films including Mary Poppins, The Lion King, and the Jungle Book. If you’ve ever been to a Disney park, Ravenscroft’s voice serenades you with "Yo Ho, Yo Ho, A Pirate’s Life for Me" and speaks for several spirits in the Haunted House.

However, the Ravenscroft performance that stands out most for me was his rendition of "You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch" in the Dr. Seuss animated special How The Grinch Stole Christmas. I’ll have to queue it up on the iPod in memoriam.
