Does anyone find this surprising?
For the past three months the Army has failed to meet its recruiting quotas, and some recruiters have been accused of signing up young men and women they knew were not qualified. The head of the army recruiting command says that recruiting these days is the toughest he’s ever seen.
Not surprised at all. Working at a school, I can also see
some students shying away from the ROTC. Any time you ask
why, the Iraq war comes up.
What’s interesting to me is not so much the war itself, but
the stories the students hear about the perception the U.S.
isn’t spending enough money to support the troops and the
hostility of some here at home.
