Now this is an example of what education is all about!
Students at a West Midlands [England] school have secured a meeting with a minister after compiling a DVD showing the poor state of their campus.
The film outlines concerns about health and safety problems shared by pupils at Joseph Leckie Community Technology College in Walsall.
They complain of falling masonry, poor drainage, blocked toilets, failed heating and an infestation of rats.
These students had a story to tell and they put together a version that was compelling enough to attract the attention of leaders who could do something about the problem. That shows learning far up on Bloom’s ladder.
I often hear of teachers and administrators limiting the access of kids to powerful communications tools, based on a fear they will be misused. I suspect many are actually afraid some students, like these, will use them all too effectively.
