The Supreme Court, that bastion of fair and balanced justice, has agreed to review a challenge to the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance in schools. The case is the one in which a California appeals court got lots of people all in a tizzy last year by throwing out the requirement in nine western states because of the "under God" portion. I’ve ranted about this before but it’s still true. You can require the recitation of the words but saying them will not make students any more patriotic than they were yesterday. Patriotism is like morality: you cannot teach it, you can only help people learn it.

One more thing. I love the reference to the Senators "who voted 99-0 for a resolution expressing support for the "under God" language". Gutsy move, guys!
