Larry Slonaker, a reporter for the San Jose Mercury News, spent the 2001-2002 on a leave of absence from the paper to teach 7th grade Language Arts, what he calls "a longtime goal". Larry wrote an outstanding five-part series on his experiences while at the same time exploring the problems of teaching. The series was published in the News a year ago but, as many of us start this new school year, the articles are well worth rereading.
