The Los Alamitos School District in California is taking a unique approach to student absenteeism. Not only do they want a note from the students’ parent, they also want them to fork over $40 for each day missed. The money is only a request but some parents have actually paid it. The district ought to give at least part of the money to the kids’ teachers as small compensation for the extra work involved with make up work, extra tutoring, etc.
