It’s been a long time since I’ve eaten in a school cafeteria. But even when I was still teaching I didn’t eat the food sold in the lunch lines, choosing to "brown bag" it instead. The school lunch program in our overly large district is supposed to have won a variety of awards over the years. However, judging from the appearance of what is dispensed, I doubt they were for taste.

I only bring this up because the BBC has an interesting article about school lunches in other countries. As in the US, there has been much discussion in Great Britain about the eating habits of kids and whether the types of foods they get during the day at school is contributing to an increase in childhood obesity. The BBC correspondents report on school lunches in France, the US, Norway, and the Ukraine and then ask visitors to the site to post what "school dinners" are like their country.
