Blogging As A Personality Disorder

According to the author of a new book “bloggers are living in a world where emotions may be real but everything else is make-believe”.

But Michael Keren, who has written “Blogosphere: The New Political Arena,” suggests individuals who bare their souls in blogs are isolated and lonely, living in a virtual reality instead of forming real relationships or helping to change the world.

“Bloggers think of themselves as rebels against mainstream society, but that rebellion is mostly confined to cyberspace, which makes blogging as melancholic and illusionary as Don Quixote tilting at windmills,” the author says.

Wow. I didn’t know I was that screwed up.

Of course, he seems to be making the generalization that all bloggers have centered their world entirely around their online presence.

That may be true for the nine individuals he followed for the book, but the people I know who blog have a pretty full life in the real world.

For most of us, this space is just an interesting extension of that real world.

However, the fact that I’m writing this at 6:30 in the morning probably says something about my real world. :-)

blogging, loneliness, emotions

My existence doesn’t center around just my blog, Tim. I also have Second Life and my email.

    As normal as they come,

Shoot. What’s wrong with being Don Quixote?
    To dream the impossible dream
    To fight the unbeatable foe
    To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go

    To right the unrightable wrong
To love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary
    To reach the unreachable star

    This is my quest
    To follow that star
    No matter how hopeless
    No matter how far

    To fight for the right
    Without question or pause
To be willing to march into Hell
    For a heavenly cause

And I know if I’ll only be true
    To this glorious quest
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm
When I’m laid to my rest

And the world will be better for this
That one man, scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
    To reach the unreachable star

Ahh, sounds like the job an ed-tech director.

And, now I can blog about being scorned and covered with scars, that that last ounce of courage!

    onward,

    Miguel
