The mayor of the District of Columbia seems to think that the city should pay in the neighborhood of $600,000 for the new school superintendent. That’s for one year, not the full four year contract!

Just to give you some idea of how out of line paying $600,000 a year for a school superintendent is, one of the leading candidates is a former chancellor of the New York City schools who has been offered the same job in the Miami-Dade school district. That school system, with almost six times the number of students as DC, wants to pay him $350,000. With that kind of thinking at the top, it’s no wonder the DC schools are in such bad shape – financially and otherwise.
