I’ve ranted several times in this space about high schools being too segmented, with major subjects often taught in isolation. Jay Mathews has some good examples of how a growing number of high schools are cracking those barriers and are offering some interdisciplinary classes. I just wish it was more than just English and social studies. How about math and science or even English and science?

One year I got together with a science teacher and we crafted an Algebra II/Chemistry section. It fell apart after one year because the administration couldn’t easily work out the scheduling. I suspect they didn’t try too hard. :-)
