Was anyone else aware that a version of the board game Monopoly no longer uses paper money?
Wheel and deal your way to a fortune even faster using debit cards instead of cash! All it takes is a card swipe for money to change hands. Now you can collect rent, buy properties and pay fines – with the touch of a button!
They’ve even dropped the race car, boot and thimble tokens! Can you imagine fighting over who gets the Segway or Altoids marker?
No cash takes away one of the of the fun parts of the game: being able to flaunt your wealth by laying out your money, tucked under the edge of the board.
Or am I just too old?
Not only does it stop you from the fun of flaunting your wealth, it also takes away the practical aspect of requiring math to play the game!
Of course, I enjoy hiding the occasional $500 or so under the board only to use it later when everyone thinks you’re out of money!!!
It also means you can’t steal money from the bank, or your little brother. Where’s the fun in that? Now how do you teach your little brother to keep his eyes on the board so he learns to watch his back?
If you’re playing the cash game you can also cheat by making color photocopies of the money and hiding it in your pocket. :-)
I never did that but my brother tried it once. Almost got away with it.
