My usual March trip had to be postponed to the fall and I didn’t have any major projects to work on, so no big galleries this month. But I still got out regularly looking for some nice images.
On this page are a few of my favorites from the past four weeks or so. If you’d like to see more of my photography, check out my Flickr photostream and the galleries at my more “formal” AssortedStuff | Photo website.
To start, at the top is a shot looking from the Jefferson Memorial with the cherry blossoms in full bloom. Although I’ve lived in the DC area since well back in the previous century, this was the first year I ventured out into the tourist mobs that swarm the area during peak bloom. Not for the faint of heart.
Lots of people were taking advantage of the beautiful background at the Tidal Basin to have formal pictures taken. For their engagement, quinceañera, senior portrait, and whatever is going on here. I’m sure I had the same curious look as the woman in the background.
A couple of weeks ago, I was able to take a tour of the facility where the Smithsonian designs and builds their exhibits. It’s a huge space with lots of little oddities to see. Like these 3D printed skulls, probably destined for the Museum of Natural History. More from that tour are in this gallery.
I was fortunate to have one of my photos included in a local exhibition addressing the development of community spaces. My photo is just one image in one slide show, and it’s set up in the Dupont Underground, a former streetcar tunnel. But still an honor to be chosen. A few more photos of this unique space are in this gallery.
Finally, a nice photo captured while walking around one the many small communities that make up the larger DC area. My favorite image of March.

Love them, especially that last one. Hope I make it to an equally enjoyable retirement in the next few years.
Thanks, Jim. I wish I had some great insight on retirement to offer, but I’m just making it up as I go. One piece of advice I can offer is to make some kind of plans for what you want to do after leaving. It can be something of a shock when you have full control (mostly) of your time.
