A group of Senators recently woke up and discovered that the number of students majoring in science and engineering fields in American colleges is falling. One part of their plan to reverse the decline is the Technology Talent Act, which provides "grants to colleges and universities to increase the number of graduates in science, technology, engineering and mathematics".

Someone should tell these guys that their aim is at least ten years too late. Unless we do something to improve the teaching of science and math starting in the elementary grades, there won’t be many kids interested enough to even apply for these grants. Not to mention that few will have the background to even start a college level science program.
