Tonight my wife is in downtown DC – for the first of three very hot, humid nights – to do the annual PBS program, A Capitol Fourth.
They have two nights of rehearsal, and the live broadcast on Friday. July 3rd. Because TACO demands that actual Independence Day be reserved for his ego trip.
You might ask why my wife insists on doing this show, especially in 100° heat. I certainly do.
It’s not for fame; she’s part of the back-up singers.
Fortune? This is PBS, so all those volunteers are lucky they get dinner.
Novelty? She’s done this at least 25 times, usually in better weather. And it’s pretty much the same show every year.
Anyway, my wife seems to enjoy the experience, and keeps going back every year. So all I can do is provide support and transportation, And watch from the air conditioned living room to see if she gets another three-second closeup for her 15-minutes of fame reel.
Stay cool and enjoy whatever level of celebration you feel is required this week. The hot weather, like this president, will eventually pass.
At the top, from the show’s website, is a picture of my wife’s choir (she is somewhere off camera to the left) from at least twenty years ago. It appears to have aged like those old film snapshots most of us have in a shoebox in the basement.
