While You Were Out

I leave town for a little trip and the board of the overly large school system I work for goes and hires us a superintendent. And without even asking me first! They also didn’t consult with the local PTA, the teacher’s unions and other community groups, which, of course, has a lot of people pissed. Considering the mess that’s been made of the very public search for someone to lead the DC public schools, keeping everything a secret in our district was probably a good idea.

But I don’t really see what the complaints are all about. The twelve people on the board were elected to their positions just last November so they represent the parents in the PTA and many of the teachers in the unions, as well as the rest of the people living in this area. It’s their job to hire the best person they can to be superintendent so shut up and let them do it. Our hundreds of special interest groups will have their chance to pick at the guy soon enough. As for me, I’d like to hear what the new superintendent has to say and give him a little time to get settled before I do any complaining. And I’m sure he appreciates that. :-)
