“For me, the notion of pre-emption, that the U.S. has the unilateral right to do whatever we decide to do, is a really huge leap.” — Former Treasury Secretary Paul O’Neill.

I don’t know how much of what O’Neill said on 60 Minutes is true but this statement just stood out. Even scarier, however, is that our government seems to be applying the concept of the “unilateral right of pre-emption” towards people within our own borders (recent examples here and here). Of course, law enforcement agencies are just playing catch up with the news media, where "guilty until proven innocent (or until we say you’re not)" has been the standing policy for many years.
