When it comes to low achievement in mathematics, one group of researchers believes we’re doing it to ourselves.

Or rather their new study indicates that our culture’s attitude towards “nerd” subjects could be a primary cause.

I haven’t read the full study but I’m sure it contains a whole lot of data and plenty of statistics. And that stuff is just going to confuse most Americans.

So, let this summary from one young woman who broke through the stereotypes and participated in international math competitions for the US substitute for all those nasty numbers.
